AUGUST 10, 1864:
The Confederate Office of The Adjutant and Inspector
General publishes a “Roll of Honor” of men whose service to the Confederacy has
gone above and beyond the call of duty. It lists such honored men
chronologically by battle, State, Regiment, and Company. As the Confederacy did
not issue medals but only commendations, this Honor Roll is essentially the
equivalent of a list of U.S. Medal of Honor recipients.
