SEPTEMBER 27, 1861:
The
Battle of Pinos Altos. C.S.A. Arizona Guards troopers drive back an Apache raid
on the town of Pinos Altos by loading an old cannon with nails, rocks and
broken tools. When the shrapnel horribly wounds their warriors in the vanguard,
the Apaches withdraw. Unlike the eastern tribes, western tribes did not ally
themselves with the Confederacy.
