SEPTEMBER 14, 1863:
Twenty
crewmen of the U.S.S. RATTLER are taken prisoner in Rodney Mississippi after
their skipper inexplicably gives them liberty to go ashore and attend church
services in a local house of worship. In keeping with the Christian principles
all Southerners historically swear by but often ignore at their option, the
Union men are arrested in church and led away in leg irons and under armed
guard during the service.
