AUGUST 20, 1864:  
The
Battle of Lovejoy’s Station. Union cavalry raiders tasked with destroying and
disrupting the Atlanta & West Point Railroad and the Macon & Western Railroad
run afoul of a Confederate force at Lovejoy’s Station, and are forced to
withdraw. Damage to the rail lines is extensive in area but not severe; the
lines are back in operation within 72 hours.
